Winter Wardrobe Blues

black silk joggers

There comes a point in the winter where I feel like I’m constantly washing the same jeans, over and over again. Last winter I picked up a pair of black (faux) silk joggers from Urban Outfitters and have found myself reaching for these pants every few weeks to change it up. A basic pair of black joggers in a luxe-looking fabric can be just as versatile as your trusty blues.

Elevate your weekend look whether you are avoiding or facing the winter weather. For a cozy day indoors, throw on some Toms slip-ons, a fuzzy beanie and a graphic sweatshirt. Heading out for a day on the town– add heeled ankle boots, a thick turtleneck sweater and top off the look with a bold wide-brimmed hat.

How do you beat the winter wardrobe blues?

Trend: Bucket Bags

Bucket Bags
Fall seems like the most appropriate time to invest in a new handbag. Not exactly sure why but I rarely buy a ‘summer bag’ but I have plenty of fall and winter bags.  More than my closet can handle! Maybe it has something do with the hype of the September Issues or that fall fashion is the most anticipated collection for most designers. Either way, the It Bag of Fall 2014 is by far the Bucket Bag.
I tend to gravitate towards the more modern, clean designs of the BAGGU & Kelsi Dagger above. But I also really like some of the animal print, leather details and weaving I’ve seen in other brands like Nasty Gal, Vans & the amazing Frye Heather bag (seen below).
Very tempted to buy a BAGGU… what do you think?

Endless summer, au naturel

I love August. The days have a warm, golden glow to them and then sunsets are always bright orange. The ocean here in Southern NJ warms up and becomes a lighter blue-green color. All the plants are lush and flowers are in full bloom. Long, sticky days seem to drift on forever but before you know it, it’s September and the days are shorter and cooler. An all white look only seems fitting amidst such vibrant surroundings.  So long, Summer.

Trend: Mules

As summer starts fading away I struggle to transition right into heavy boots and shoes. Early fall is still warm enough for a peep toe and the ’70s meets ’90s feel of an open-toe mule is right on trend for September.

I recently purchased the Jeffery Campbell “Druid” and I’m dreaming of wearing them with longer dresses, jeans and soon… sweaters.

The mood of Free People’s January catalog really hooked me. The scenes remind me of spring or early fall bike rides, when the air is a tad chilly but the sun is strong and all I want to do is hop on a beach cruiser for a jaunt around town. Practicality aside (bike riding in long skirts? Portlandia Birthday Bike Ride. That’s all I’m going to say) I’m in love with that ombre dress and the blue bali print pants. I want to join the carefree biking girls adorned in whimsical clothing, flower-printed skirts trailing in the wind.

Putting on the Glitz

2013 is creepin’ up on us! That means you better have your outfit ready soon for ‘the eve.’ As soon as Christmas hits it’s just a flurry of friends and family, then BAM all a sudden you are in a panic to find THE outfit.

I like to think that what you wear at midnight on the 1st of the new year sets the tone for the rest of the year. No matter what I end up doing I like to wear something a little more bedazzled than usual on NYE. Last year I attempted to wear these babies out for the night.

glitter heels

But after dinner my feet were so sore that I couldn’t imagine making it through a night of dancing! This year, since I’m spending the holiday in Key West, where anything goes and a drag queen is lowered from a second story building in a giant glittery high heel, I think I may go full-on glitz. If I could go on a shopping spree I would buy ALL of these items.

How do you like to dress on New Years Eve?

Do you have any New Years rituals? I also like to make sure the 1st song I play on the morning (or afternoon depending on how the eve’s events went) of the new year is something meaningful to me. Again- setting the tone for the year ahead!

PopSugar Must Have Box Review

As an avid reader of POPSUGAR and their many other websites (they even have one for tech girls- GeekSugar) I was intrigued by their Must Have Box. Subscription boxes/bags seem to be a new trend. I’ve seen market focused ones for beauty products, fashion, health food, and fitness but POPSUGAR’s  online publications cover a wide range of topics so theirs is the best of everything—food, style, beauty, media, and lifestyle.

I decided that from the looks of the August box that September could be really worth it’s $35 price (which ended up being $25 from a promo I found online).  I ordered and then kind of forgot about it.

Until last Friday when my box arrived!

Like opening a present!

It comes wrapped in pink tissue paper and with a little booklet that explains all the contents. The September box was jam-packed!

POPSUGAR September Box Breakdown:

  1. Benefit Cabana Glama Makeup Set- $18.99
  2. Brokendown scarf- $84 to $94
  3. Perks of Being a Wallflower Book- $8
  4. Perks of Being a Wallflower movie tickets (2)- $20
  5. Rifle Paper Co.’s Lined Notepad– $8
  6. Food Should Taste Good Sweet Potato Chips– $3
  7. Kitsch Hair Ties– $13.99
  8. Becky’s Blissful Bakery Caramels (4)- $5
  9. Pop-Up Pantry Dinners cookie and one free meal voucher- $45
  10. POPSUGAR pouch for change, phone, cards…etc.
  11. Yes to Cucumbers Hypoallergenic Towelettes– $2
  12. Tracie Martyn Skin Care Line – $25

Total: About $250

As you can see the contents of the box are worth much more than the $35 price. Not to mention, they really are useful. I was planning on seeing Perks of Being a Wallflower and now I can go for free and bring a friend. Benefit is one of my favorite makeup brands so I will definitely make use of the set. I think I wore the scarf almost every day over the weekend. The cleansing face wipes will replace my Clean and Clear ones that just ran out. I could go on but I’ll just say- I’m impressed, good job POPSUGAR! I can’t wait to see what’s inside October’s box, hopefully something spooky?
